Common Questions: Interior Demolition

  • What is asbestos, and why is it a concern during demolition?

Asbestos is a mineral fiber known for its durability and heat resistance. It was commonly used in building materials before its health risks were known.

During demolition, asbestos-containing materials can release fibers into the air, which, if inhaled, can lead to serious health issues.

  • How do you identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in my building?

Our team conducts thorough inspections and testing to identify ACMs. This involves visual inspections, sampling, and laboratory analysis to determine if asbestos is present and its type and condition.

  • What safety measures do you take to manage asbestos during demolition?

We follow strict protocols set by WorkSafeBC to ensure the safe management of asbestos. This includes using specialized equipment, sealing off work areas, and implementing proper ventilation and decontamination procedures.

  • Can you provide a timeline and cost estimate for the interior demolition project?

Yes, we can provide you with an approximate timeline and detailed cost estimate based on the scope of work.

Factors such as the size of the building, the potential presence of asbestos and the complexity of the interior demolition will impact the timeline and cost. We will always communicate with clients before commencing work outside of the original scope of work.

  • What should I do if I suspect there is asbestos in my building?

If you suspect there is asbestos in your building, it's important to avoid disturbing the materials and contact a professional asbestos abatement company like us for an inspection and assessment.

  • Are there health risks related to living/working in a building containing asbestos?

Asbestos poses health risks when its fibers are released into the air and inhaled. If the asbestos-containing materials are intact and undisturbed, the risk is low.

However, any renovation or demolition work that disturbs these materials can pose a risk and should be done by professionals following proper safety protocols.

I’m sure you’ve probably heard the word asbestos a few times in your life. Especially if you live in Canada, in which you’ve most likely heard it A LOT. You also probably know that it’s a harmful substance found in a lot of building materials, but why was it used so extensively and what is it exactly? Asbestos Busters has all of your questions answered. Let’s start with some history. Asbestos has been used for thousands of years dating back to the ancient Egyptian era about 4000 B.C when it was used to make cloth and paper, often used to mummify the rich after death. It’s been used in tons of materials since then, but it wasn’t until the late 1800’s that mining asbestos started to boom. And by 1970 it was used in 95% of homes in Canada. Not only was it in almost every home, but it was also in most parts of homes as well.
